Since Hurricane Sandy, FORM NY has embraced every opportunity to work in coordination with the American Institute of Architects efforts; participate in quickly developing rebuilding guidelines; maintained involvement in local governments; researched and participated in local code evaluation and implementation; worked with FEMA, insurers and lending institutions; and directly with residents in Long Beach, NYC, and Connecticut to rebuild better homes for a safer, more sustainable future, assisting families such as that of Melanie Hamilton, a beloved local teacher in southern Connecticut whose story involving her house being destroyed by Hurricane Irene and again during Sandy was told in the national press, including on NBC's Today Show, leaving her, her husband and their handicapped child without a home.
